Yes, FIC’s self-paced course has been approved by the FSPCA. It is based on the FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food standardized curriculum (Version 2.0) and is recognized by the FDA as meeting PCQI training requirements under FSMA. Successful participants receive an official PCQI certificate issued by AFDO.
The curriculum, learning objectives, and certificate are the same as live FSPCA PCQI training. The difference is delivery. This self-paced format allows learners to progress at their own speed while still completing all required exercises, assessments, and practical applications.
The PCQI 2.0 course takes approximately 22 hours to complete, but varies depending on the learner. After enrolling, you receive 1 year of access, allowing you to complete the PCQI training at your own pace. You can begin the course immediately upon enrollment.
The self-paced PCQI Human Food (Version 2.0) course consists of 16 sequential chapters based on the FSPCA standardized curriculum and must be completed in order. Each chapter includes instructional videos, interactive activities, knowledge checks, and scenario-based exercises, with some chapters requiring completion of forms using model food safety plans.
To progress, learners must pass a chapter quiz with a minimum score of 80% (unlimited attempts). To successfully complete the course, all chapters, the final conclusion module, and a short feedback form must be completed. Upon completion, learners receive instructions to access their official AFDO-issued PCQI certificate, which meets FDA-recognized PCQI training requirements under FSMA.
Yes. The course is designed to support both first-time PCQI learners and experienced food safety professionals. Concepts are explained clearly, with examples, exercises, and practical tools to reinforce learning.
Yes. Even though the course is self-paced, learners have direct access to instructor support to ask questions and receive clarification throughout the course.
Upon completing the course, you will be asked to fill out an Excel form and submit it to our course administrator, who will forward your records to IFPTI. IFPTI will then email you within approximately one week with a link to download your official FSPCA PCQI certificate.
While the PCQI certificate does not expire, individuals who completed PCQI training prior to 2025, before the release of FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food Version 2.0, are strongly encouraged to complete this updated course. In addition, refresher training is recommended every five years to remain current with FSMA requirements, FDA guidance, and GFSI-recognized food safety standards.
Version 2.0 is the most up-to-date FSPCA curriculum and was launched in 2025. Key updates include revisions to the Hazard Analysis chapter based on FDA’s current thinking and the FDA Hazard Guide, a reorganization of verification and recordkeeping content within each Preventive Controls chapter, additional examples for the preventive control management components, and streamlined chapter content to reduce redundancy.
This course is ideal for anyone responsible for developing, implementing, or overseeing food safety plans, including QA/QC personnel, food safety managers, supervisors, consultants, and regulatory professionals.
While it is not required for individuals who have already completed PCQI training, taking Version 2.0 is highly recommended. The updated course includes the latest FDA guidance, enhanced hazard analysis techniques, and improved integration of HACCP with preventive controls. It provides new tools and insights to address modern food safety challenges, ensuring that your food safety plan aligns with current best practices and regulations. By completing Version 2.0, you refresh your knowledge and stay ahead in maintaining compliance.
Version 2.0 has been revised to reflect updated FDA guidance and incorporates:
Advanced approaches to hazard analysis, extending beyond traditional HACCP.
Seamless integration of HACCP with preventive controls for alignment with GFSI standards.
Comprehensive resources, including updated training manuals, step-by-step guides, expanded workbooks, and model plans tailored for small and mid-sized producers.
Emphasis on managing emerging risks such as allergen control, sanitation, and environmental monitoring.
Inclusion of the latest regulatory updates, like references to the CDC and the Reportable Food Registry.
